Fell Dub EP //Two young Bristol producers present a fresh take on very best rhythms, colours and textures at the very centre of the current explosion in UK Dance music, from Dubstep and 2-Step, to Wonky and Dub-Techno. But with an ear for melody that is often sadly lacking in current Dance music, this is the first EP from the Blank Slate Records collective. The title track of the EP, Fell Dub, builds with lapping waves of cold-water punctated with ice chord shards, before the underwater explosion of bass rachets up the pressure. The remix injects a spasming rhythm in darker, sparser Bristol-style splintering the dub-chords further. The true gems however, are on the flip. Anger Divine features the breathtaking vocals of another Bristol resident, Andrew Mensah, with the original exploring a more spiritual, mediatitive take on the techstep sound which finally resolves itself into an early morning house groove. The remix, meanwhile, takes a jazzy, floating approach using more organic percussion and percolating arpeggiated synth lines for a more colourful take on the 2-step sound. http://blankslate.org.uk/ | ||
