Digital-Tunes Best of 2011 Top 50 //![]() Here at last! our favourite 50 tracks from last year. We’re two months and a half deep into 2012 already, but it’s definitely not too late to share with you our favourite music from 2011- a year full of game-changing releases, from both legendary producers and new exciting artists aswell, shifting our attention into new labels, scenes and sounds weekly, as each new batch of releases was delivered to our store. Our criteria is simple but the choice was slow, painful and impossibly complex, as we left tune after tune behind in pursuit of the brightest 50. The idea was to pick the tracks that made the deepest and – most importantly – long-lasting impression on us, regardless of genres or hype. Some of them became bestsellers for more than 2 weeks in a row, and others fell into oblivion, succumbing to bad timing, poor promotion or other more inexplicable but equally valid reasons. Maybe it was the irresistible dancefloor appeal of a certain track that made it for us, or the way it caught our imagination with new sounds, uncanny production techniques or dreamy melodies and vibes – or all three. Whatever the spark, these tracks did something special to us. The top spot goes to Om Unit, arguably our favorite producer of 2011 and definitely one of the strongest artists of the year, releasing gem after gem of barrier-breaking bass-heavy music on crucial labels like Civil, Hoya:hoya and his own Cosmic Bridge. Let’s just say that the first version of this list had four tracks from him – we had to pick just one. The second place goes to the biggest d&b track of the year, from two of the absolute best producers of the genre, released by our favorite label at the moment: Exit Records. We’re obviously talking about “Marka” by Dub Phizix & Skeptical feat. Strategy, a tune that sent new modern Drum & Bass into the limelight again in a true breakthrough style, catching everyone’s attention to this new form of clean, sophisticated d&b, slowly growing and lurking in the underground for the last couple of years.
